It’s Monday again and in our home that means a fresh start, a renewed focus….and a fresh layer of weekend dirt. The increased foot traffic, the post-game cleats & uniforms, the fresh spring dirt & mud are all the results of a weekend well lived but definitely leave me facing the new week with the aftermath. I couldn’t manage without my Weekly Home Blessing!
The Weekly Home Blessing is a genius idea that I found from Flylady years ago. The beauty of a system like this is that you can take the idea and adapt it to fit your family and your home. Once you do this the Weekly Home Blessing will be one of the most valuable parts of your homemaking tool kit.
It makes me feel good, I feel like I have truly made a haven for my family when they come home from work and school and I am “all caught up” to start the week. Below is my own Weekly Home Blessing, for my family of nine….
Step One: Begin on a positive note! Make sure your morning routine and daily jobs are complete. Start a load of laundry, clean up breakfast, wipe down the counters & table, make your bed & quickly pick up any clutter. Turn on some music or motivational listening material and light some candles or diffuse essential oils. Set the tone for the day you want to have.
Step Two: Bathrooms– Generously spray with a disinfecting cleaner and let it sit for 10 minutes. ( I usually spray, start laundry and then come back) Wipe down sinks, cabinets, fixtures, light switches. Check the walls for fingerprints. Quickly wipe the shower walls & tub. Scrub inside the toilet and thoroughly wipe down the outside with antibacterial wipes. Leave the floor until later.
Step Three: Vacuum & Dust Floors & Furniture– Using a vacuum that can clean both hard floors & carpet is a lifesaver! I have a Shark Rocket and I love this thing! I go through my whole house quickly and then swap out the attachments to vacuum my living room furniture and dust.
Step Four: Glass Cleaning– A quick clean of the glass on our exterior doors and all the mirrors. The traffic of the weekend leaves so many fingerprints! When I get frustrated with things like this I try to picture the hand of that child and hear their laughter as they passed through that door. That definitely helps with maintaining a positive perspective 😊
Step Five: Mop Hard Floors– Fill your mop bucket with something that smells good and do a quick mop throughout your hard floors I alternate between a spin mom and a steam mop and I love them both.
After you’ve finished mopping swap out your laundry if possible and them take some time to yourself. Make a cup of coffee or tea and sit and actually enjoy your home. Smell how fresh it is. Think about your family coming home to a place of peace that YOU created. Don’t get bogged down by negativity thinking they will wreck it all as soon as they run through the door. Messes will happen. That’s part of having a family.
The Weekly Home Blessing can truly bless your week. Personally I chose to repeat my Blessing on Friday to help set the tone for the weekend. This is just one of the simple yet effective systems that can truly help you maintain order and peace in your home.
Are you interested in trying this routine? I’d love to hear how it works out for you! Do you have an effective system of your own? Please share if you do! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit with me today!
